NFRC Energy Efficiency Ratings for Champion Replacement Windows
The National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) rates all
Champion Replacement Windows for their energy efficiency. These energy ratings are an important indicator of
what to look for when shopping for replacement windows. Each new replacement window has a sticker that displays all of our energy efficiency ratings:
U Factor
The U Factor of a window measures the rate of heat transfer and implies how well the window is insulated. U-Factor includes the thermal properties of the frame as well as the glazing. The lower the U-Factor energy rating, the more energy efficient the window becomes.
Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC)
The Solar Heat Gain Coefficient shows the solar energy transmitted by a window and shows how efficiently a window blocks heat from the sun. SHGC is expressed as a factor between 0 and 1. The lower the solar heat gain coefficient, the better the window is at blocking unwanted heat gain. Blocking solar heat gain is especially important during the summer when cooling systems are working their hardest.
Condensation Resistance (CR)
The Condensation Resistance rating calculates how efficiently our replacement windows resist water build-up. CR is expressed as a number between 1 and 100. The higher the Condensation Resistance factor, the better a window is able to resist condensation.
Visible Transmittance (VT)
The visible transmittance energy rating indicates the amount of visible light transmitted through our replacement windows. VT is expressed as a factor between 0 and 1. The higher the number the more daylight is transmitted. As a result, a higher VT level best maximizes daylight.
The NFRC is a non-profit organization that administers the only uniform, independent rating and labeling system for the energy performance of replacement windows, doors, skylights, and attachment products. Its goal is to provide fair, accurate, and reliable energy efficiency ratings so that architects, builders, code officials, contractors, homeowners, and others can compare different products and make informed product choices.
